About Us
The Alexander Leigh Center for Autism was founded by Dorie Hoevel and Kelly Weaver, who are both parents of children with autism. These two dedicated mothers are determined to create a place where children can reach their full individual potential, in a caring and safe environment, a place where each child's differences are what make them special. To provide an environment where children on the autistic spectrum can develop their potential
academically, emotionally, socially, communicatively, physically and gain functional independence
using programs and methods that are selected for each child based on their individual needs.
Core Values
• Empowering children with ASD to participate fully in all aspects of life.
• Respecting each child’s unique personality and traits.
• Maintaining the highest level of safety, dignity, honesty and excellence in all interactions with
the children, their families, staff and community.
• Recognizing the skills of our staff, encouraging commitment and dedication while providing
continuous and ongoing training and support.
• Forming a partnership with families to promote consistency, program carryover and support
across environments.
• Accepting new ideas and approaches that are in the best interest of the child.
• Promoting reciprocal relationships within the community.
• Celebrating each and every achievement of the child.
Philosophy
The Alexander Leigh Center for Autism is based on the philosophy that every child deserves an
appropriate place to learn and develop within a supportive environment. Although children on the
autistic spectrum are so amazingly different, they all share several characteristics; sensory integration
dysfunction, an impaired communication system; and a lack of social awareness including forming peer
relationships. It is our belief that addressing these characteristics through a child centered team
approach, which follows a therapeutic, holistic, interdisciplinary model, with emphasis on
generalization of skills to home and community, provides the best practice for success.
